Great Lakes Boat Building School at 485 South Meridian Street, Cedarville, Michigan.

My father and I attended a one-week kayak-building class here in 2012, and it was one of our greatest life experiences together. Class consisted of about a dozen students, everyone building their own boat, and pitching in to help each other along the way.

Staff is friendly, relaxed, and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. I did not take any of the school's semester-long courses but I spoke with students who did and they loved it.

Look up the courses on the school's website. If you see any that interest you I strongly suggest you sign up. This is a marvelous place, and you wont regret it.

I believe there is a hotel (or two?) in Cedarville, but when we were there my Dad and I camped at Carp River Campground. A nice place that we had pretty much to ourselves.

The Les Cheneaux Historical Association & Museum are nearby and worth a visit. Lots of interesting exhibits, although it's small and won't take you more than a few hours at most.

An excellent school teaching the skill of precision joinery and wooden boat construction. They turn out students of all ages with a high degree of skill to work with wood and composites.
